CairoGiro Cambridgeshire Narrowboat trips
Navigating
-
Navigating: navigating on a river is generally simple given a reasonable map, you can normally only go two ways, upstream or downstream! The term "navigating" on a narrow boat equates to "driving" the boat. No license is required but many find the initial experience of controlling 15 tons of steel daunting.
-
Steering and mooring: customers will receive instruction on navigating, turning and finally mooring the boat. Instruction will also be given on the basic knots required and tips for safe and secure mooring.
-
Locks: one of the advantages of navigating on the Cambridge Fens is the lack of locks to negotiate. However there are two locks en route to Cambridge and many on the stretches west of St Ives so instruction on use of locks can be easily accomodated.
